How i Survived my First Two Weeks of College with Covid
After an outstanding and enjoyable Varsity soccer preseason, I had truly earned my spot on the team. Going into the start of my freshman season, I was excited about my extensive involvement in the team. However, before I could even enjoy my first minutes in the game, I was unfortunate enough to get COVID-19. It was aggravating to see my teammates out on the field while I sat at home; missing those first two games felt like a lost opportunity. I feared missing these crucial first games would cause the team to form a culture without me.
By the time I was able to rejoin practices, I immediately realized that my health and stamina just weren’t what they had been. COVID-19 had left me sluggish-like all of the progress I made in the preseason was bargained for. I couldn’t find the energy and endurance I had counted on, and every sprint and drill felt inordinately taxing. That was frustrating, where one would be there physically, yet lacking in feel, whereby the body needed to coordinate more generally during the game.
Nevertheless, I didn’t let this define my freshman season. I kept my head up, focusing on each practice and making the most of any minutes I would get on the field. Although my role in the team was less than I’d hoped for; I was determined to show my resilience and dedication to myself and my teammates to constantly adapt and contribute to whatever the setback.
Despite my initial frustration at missing these early games, the experience of being sidelined through no fault of my own taught me two essential values: resilience and adaptability. These tenets have guided me to consistently better myself. As I enter my third year at Wesleyan, I strive to improve and become a more committed and influential student-athlete.
